Chook house rebuilding

Okay here are the photos...

This

is the old hen house and run, smelly, muddy and too small for nine hens

and a rooster. No nesting boxes! After a days rain you were

up to your ankles in this fowl sludge in the run...

This

is the new model - should really be lined for insulation. However

it is dry and clean, has four nesting boxes and enough perches for

everyone

And this is what happened when you pulled on the old chookhouse - instant demolition

They have rewarded the effort and expense of providing them with new quarters by upping the eggs from 5 or 6 a day to 8 most days. They look a lot healthier in the space of a week too (unless I am imagining it *grin*). I'm pleased to report that the yolks stay together now too instead of breaking when you crack the egg - so will be able to make pavlova when I get the inclination.
They do know how to roost funnily enough - the old house had a single perch (with room for about 4 chooks) at about 6 foot off the ground - so don't imagine it got much use... Now they have sorted themselves out on the new perches (top chook had to decide where the best spot was) they all line up on the perches at night.
